Our Patients Are Guinea Pigs And They Don’t Even Know It

A few weeks ago on the recommendation of the BMJ, I was interviewed on BBC World Service Business Daily giving my view on how commercial corruption of medicine resulting in over prescription of medications to millions across the globe, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths due to side effects was at the root of our healthcare crisis.

What is most disturbing is that those who wish to engage in reasonable debate to challenge the status quo and improve transparency in the system are often bullied, harassed or silenced into submission. For example, In 2015 the former editor of the Medical Journal of Australia, Professor Stephen Leeder was sacked for questioning increasing commercial influence over the journal and the majority of his editorial team resigned in protest. The very impressive presenter, Manuela Saragosa put my claims and concerns to Dr. Virginia Acha, the Executive Director of Research at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry.
